Title
A wish to die artistically
Artist
Paul Davenport
Medium
Painting - Oil Paint On Board
Description
Winsor & Newton artists' oil colours applied on one metre square plywood.
Some of the background texture was produced by mixing the oil pigment with various grades of 'Golden' Pumice Gel medium and manipulated directly on the board using bits of wood and my fingers. Otherwise I used linseed oil with the paint for the brushwork and the several glazes.

As beautiful and poignant as I find this, I also find it quite difficult to look at. It brings tears to my eyes. I can't explain it, just very visceral!

Absolutely love the title...brilliant!
Paul Davenport replied:
I think I had just watched the Ingmar Bergman film 'Persona" and the news footage of the monk setting himself on fire to Bach's concerto for two violins, very disturbing to find it both beautiful and poignant!
