Title
Consciousness of the Inanimate painting as a Spherical Depth Map. c
Artist
Paul Davenport
Medium
Painting - Oil Paint On Board And Digital
Description
This 'Extraction' is a Spherical Depth Map of my 'Consciousness of the Inanimate' oil painting. Ive just started experimenting with Depth Maps and thought thought some of my paintings would produce some interesting effects. Any white plots as '0' and appears as the surface of the sphere, black is theoretically in the centre, and is cut away - everything else is plotted accordingly.
These Spherical Depth Maps of the 'Consciousness of the Inanimate' painting are all of the same model, viewed from different positions.
Original painting can be viewed here...

Now looking for suppliers that could print this out as a solid 3D object, which I would love to try.

Sometime I just come back to visit this special collection and I choose a new favorite!
Paul Davenport replied:
Hi Barbie :-)... yeh, still one of the strangest things I have tried... Im still recovering from the surprise of getting a 3D model in photoshop you can light and rotate. I still haven't tried printing one out in 3D yet. I wasn't ever satisfied with how to present these really - they are most interesting when you see them together with the paintings so you can see the correlation! maybe should have just put them side by side?
