Resting Il
Artist
Paul Davenport
Medium
Drawing - Compressed Charcoal On Paper
Description
A2 Charcoal and Conte drawing of a man resting in a crouching pose.
Im still interested in capturing the energy of the stroke with the marks I make - but am also getting interested in how both the shading and light can bleed into the subjects, giving form.
This version was worked up from a quick life drawing sketch - the smudging done with fingers, kitchen towel and a cardboard stick. Drawn with compressed charcoal onto Daler Rowney Fine Grain Heavyweight 200gsm paper.

Love how he seems to grow out of the shadows. The white of the light from the right, perfect on his arm and shoulder, and the rim of the light on the knee on the floor. Just gorgeous. I'm so impressed with your work! :-) Maggie

I am getting increasingly stressed by not being able to edit/rub out any of the marks I make!... kind of makes it more fun too :-)

Love your work! Can see your passion.
Paul Davenport replied:
Happy you like it Mary. I do try and imbue emotional content through the strokes… am now getting concerned about how representational these drawings are - my drawings never never particularly representational… suppose its the preoccupation with dark shadows I have at the moment!
