Description
Recently went on a local walkabout looking for interesting foliage, whilst getting used to a new camera lens. Primarily looking for composition and colour.
This is Heliconia rostrata or also known as hanging lobster claw or false bird of paradise, a native to Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Ecuador, and naturalized in Puerto Rico.… now photographed in Birmingham - how cool is that!
The large buds are beautiful, but I find the mathematically precise “wiggly” stalk amazing.
Captured with a Nikon D7100 with 18-300 Nikkor lens.

Thank you :-) - its the size of the buds that's quite startling and unexpected.

They make me think of little avian creatures with beaks open for food, Paul. This is a pod choice for me in the Best of Minimalism group.
