A tribute to Ovid: A drawing produced in the manner of visual montage… not particularly storytelling as such, more a fragmented collection of images to generate a mood… so more a mood board with a pencil than anything!
2000 years and counting (as of 2017) :-)
Ovid’s playful poetry made him a favourite among Rome’s elite, but angered Emperor Augustus.
Just as he was producing his finest work, Ovid (43 BC – 17 AD) was exiled to the darkest corner of the empire, never to return.
Incredibly influential on much of modern literature - best known (If one can say that) for Metamorphoses... from which Romeo and Juliet takes inspiration.
Drawn with 2b, 4b, 6b and 9b Daler-Rowney Artist Pencils onto A1 (594 x 841) 220g/m2 poster board, then a light watercolour wash applied.

Methinks thou art overly generous m'lady :-) Who doesn't like narrative Roman poetry anywayz? Actually extremely time consuming deciding on the symbols, sketching and assembling them into a composition before even starting the drawing... kinda fun though!

Paul Davenport replied:
Thank you for responding Jaroslav... I almost didn't upload this, and it seems to be going down generally like a lead balloon :-) was a bit crazy getting it online really as my camera isn't extremely high res, so decided to scan it in... and my scanner is only A3 :-) - I used to do quite a lot of work in this style and size... kind of social comments, not particularly detailed, just rather fun to do... very happy you find it interesting, and thank you for the l/f :-)
