Medium
Drawing - Charcoal, Compressed Charcoal On Paper
Description
A2 Charcoal and Conte drawing of a man resting in a reclined pose.
Im still interested in capturing the energy of the stroke with the marks I make whilst exploring how both the shading and light can bleed into the subject, giving form.
This version was worked up from a quick life drawing sketch - the smudging done with fingers, kitchen towel and a cardboard stick. Drawn with compressed charcoal onto Daler Rowney Fine Grain Heavyweight 200gsm paper.
As I don't erase any marks, I find the process more interesting than the finished drawing... a very rough timeline of the drawing can be seen on Behance...

I like them the way they are - reminds me of of old master's sketches I have seen in museums in Europe.

Love this gallery, Paul!
Paul Davenport replied:
Very happy you like them! - with most of my drawings, especially these figure drawings, I have mixed feelings about. I don't erase any marks I make so find doing them kinda stressful in a funny kind of way... I maybe should start using paint? :-)
