The second drawing in the Shadowtwister series, which is a development of my other drawings to explore the possibilities of completely bisecting the page into light and shade... the subject being left to form in the middle where they meet.
This version was created by taking the "Shadowtwister" black and white drawing and overlaying it onto a scan of stained and tinted handmade watercolour paper, (the stained paper is predominantly greeny/brown(ish)) I then applied various layer filters in Photoshop, to revise and modify the colour.
I approach this stage as just 'fun', as it involves experimenting with combinations of filters to produce interesting effects, colours and textures... the results are very often startling and somewhat unexpected.
The original drawing is slightly larger than I normally do, it was done with compressed charcoal on 50 x 70 cm Zeichenkarton 220g/m2 drawing paper.
The original drawing can be seen here...

I started off in fine art, by going to Wakefield School of Art and then St Martins in London to do Sculpture, I have spent most of my time (after going to Camberwell School of Art for a Graphics degree) doing graphic design, working through various sectors including publishing, sales promotion, marketing, and design consultancies, before starting my own company in 1995. I have always to some extent kept up with the fine art - even when this just meant going out sketching with my dad... and its always played a big part in my design work. Most recently though I have being doing rather allot of drawing, re igniting a passion for my long lost love of fine art (or scribbling). From sketching my neighbours little girl, I found myself...

Love the results and also the details of your process. I find so much creativity in the computer....and it is supportive for me to read that others invent methods to enhance the work! I love this image so much! F/L++
Paul Davenport replied:
Happy you like them :-)... the colour versions really came about by me trying to find uses for some homemade paper... which, as paper, turned out pretty unusable... but I loved the textures! I would like to experiment producing these in real texture, but don't really have the room to do it at the moment... I foresee it being a rather messy process! :-))
