Jigsaw Puzzle
This version was created by taking the "Shadowtwister" black and white drawing and overlaying it onto a scan of stained and tinted handmade watercolour paper, (the stained paper is predominantly greeny/brown(ish)) I then applied various layer filters in Photoshop, to revise and modify the colour.
I approach this stage as just fun, as it involves experimenting with combinations of filters to produce interesting effects, colours and textures... the results are very often startling and somewhat unexpected.
The original drawing was done with compressed charcoal on A2 Daler Rowney 200g/m2 Fine Grain, HeavyWeight paper.
I started off in fine art, by going to Wakefield School of Art and then St Martins in London to do Sculpture, I have spent most of my time (after going to Camberwell School of Art for a Graphics degree) doing graphic design, working through various sectors including publishing, sales promotion, marketing, and design consultancies, before starting my own company in 1995. I have always to some extent kept up with the fine art - even when this just meant going out sketching with my dad... and its always played a big part in my design work. Most recently though I have being doing rather allot of drawing, re igniting a passion for my long lost love of fine art (or scribbling). From sketching my neighbours little girl, I found myself...

Thank you Alinna :-)
Merana Cadorette
I liked the black and white version...and then I saw this and I literally gasped...it took my breath away. Very well done
Paul Davenport replied:
Very happy you like it Merana :-) I only started doing the colour versions when it was raining one night when I should have had life drawing so had nothing to do! Rather fun to do. The only regret is the homemade paper isn't a good surface to draw on (not how I draw anyhoo) - so the colour versions don't exist in a drawer somewhere!
