Drawing - Compressed Charcoal On Paper
Description
A one off portrait in compressed charcoal on paper... just came across this chap who had such a character worn, interesting face, I couldn't resist trying to capture it. As with most of my drawings, this is done purely with compressed charcoal, the white and grey tones being the paper showing.
Its a much more realistic approach I would normally do... but his wrinkles called for it.
Drawn with compressed charcoal onto A2 Daler Rowney Fine Grain HeavyWeight paper.

Amazing visage so artfully, and dare I say, lovingly captured! At first glance, it actually does look like a photographic rendition. The wrinkles and facial expression notwithstanding, you captured the eyes perfectly...they really "sell" the image!

Paul Davenport replied:
Thank you Robert - much appreciated :-). Actually felt rather odd doing such a large drawing almost completely black... I used rather alot of conte sticks :-)
