Drawing - Compressed Charcoal On Paper And Digital
Description
Balanced - textured too is the ongoing exploration of the possibilities of capturing the mood of a moment by capturing the movement and application of the stroke when describing light and shade… My figure drawings are as much about playing with light and shade than the actual figures, which are left to form organically.
My figures are usually worked up from small sketches done from life, with an intermediary drawing to work out the shapes and shading.
The original drawing was done with compressed charcoal (conte) on A2 Daler Rowney 200gsm Fine Grain HeavyWeight paper. Very much a test to see how my arms are working (more than usual) as Ive been having trouble with coordinating things recently… a scan of the drawing then overplayed onto a scan of stained, homemade paper. Balanced - textured too being a second textured version.

Paul Davenport replied:
:-) I feel its never ending really... you would not believe how many versions I end up with when playing with the colour versions of the drawings... and this one was only trying one texture. This basic drawing was rather unusual in as much as it turned out very differently to what I was expecting! I thought it would be much more ephemeral and indistinct. Thank you very much for the L/F
